What’s New in OVD 3.5 - Inuvika

One Workspace.

No Boundaries.

Welcome to OVD Enterprise 3.5.0

Inuvika OVD Enterprise 3.5.0 is here — a polished, significant release that elevates performance, security, authentication experience, and end-user workflow across the platform.

This version focuses on streamlining everyday operations, reinforcing enterprise security, and delivering a smoother, more capable virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solution.

We've made the top alternative to Citrix, VMware (Omnissa) Horizon and Azure AVD even better!

What's new in OVD Enterprise 3.5.0?

Local App Access

OVD Enterprise now enables Local App Access, allowing file types that are opened within an OVD session, to launch automatically in the matching application on the user’s local device where appropriate. This delivers noticeably faster response times for locally installed applications while letting administrators fine-tune where apps run — locally or remotely — for optimal experience and performance.

Single User Windows Server Access

Administrators can now connect to Windows Server using the built-in, single-session remote access without requiring Remote Desktop Services roles or RDS CALs. This is ideal for management and maintenance workflows, especially in environments where full multi-user Remote Desktop Services is not needed.

Enhanced Application Mode Across Clients

Application Mode in the Enterprise Desktop Client (Windows, macOS, and Linux) has received a range of refinements, including better keyboard handling, improved seamless rendering, cleaner quit behavior, and more stable window sizing and positioning. These improvements make published applications feel more native and predictable.

Next-Generation RDP Protocol Stack

OVD’s core remote display technology has been upgraded to a customised branch, based on FreeRDP 3.x. This modernized RDP foundation improves performance, unlocks newer protocol capabilities, and creates a stronger base for future enhancements in responsiveness and user experience.

SAML2 Passwordless Authentication

Passwordless login is now supported via SAML2 single sign-on. When your Active Directory trusts the OVD Session Manager through a certificate authority, users can access sessions without entering a second password — reducing friction while maintaining enterprise-grade identity security.

Stronger Security & Streamlined Policies

This release improves the overall security posture with encrypted session password storage, automatic HTTP → HTTPS redirection for web components, and Windows service hardening. Administrators can also choose whether or not to enforce session lockdown policies while still maintaining governance.

Interoperability & Rich Clipboard Enhancements

Clipboard support has been expanded to include rich text and file copy. A variety of fixes improve reliability across workflows involving formatted content and file transfers — a notable productivity boost for everyday usage.

Flexible Metrics Backend Support

Beyond existing InfluxDB support, OVD Enterprise 3.5 adds optional support for TDEngine as a configurable metrics backend — giving organizations flexibility to align with their choice of time-series data platform for monitoring and analytics.

Directory & Identity Reliability Improvements

Active Directory and LDAP integrations have been strengthened with fixes for primary group membership, more reliable user listings, simplified LDAP SSL configuration, and improved interface stability. Administrators can now also publish resources to the default Domain Users group for faster 'all-user' deployments.

Operational Enhancements for Administrators

OVD Enterprise 3.5 simplifies day-to-day administration with expanded global monitoring, cleaner session management, and streamlined tenant and admin interfaces. Active Session views are more stable and performant, logs now display in the server’s local timezone, and the Admin Console provides contextual guidance to reduce setup friction.

Improved Device & Peripheral Support

This release includes enhancements to disk and drive redirection, optional thumbnail control for compatibility, better printer detection with long and non-ASCII usernames, and improved gateway ping support for proxy environments. The Magic Toolbar has been refined with a dedicated Ctrl+Alt+Del option and more predictable keyboard passthrough behaviour.

Other New Features

Gateway and Connectivity Improvements

Connectivity through gateways and proxies has been refined in OVD Enterprise 3.5, with improved connection handling, gateway ping support for clients, and more predictable behaviour during session drops and reconnects. These changes improve reliability for users connecting across complex or constrained network environments.

Native Enterprise Desktop Clients

The Enterprise Desktop Client for Windows is now 64-bit native, improving performance and stability, while the macOS client has been completely rewritten to run natively on Apple Silicon without Rosetta — delivering a significant boost on modern Mac hardware.

Cloud-Friendly File Server and Profile Handling

The OVD File Server has been updated to use a more cloud-friendly storage approach, improving reliability and consistency across platforms such as Azure and AWS. User profile handling has also been improved to ensure Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome profiles are retained correctly across sessions.
